Exciting news is coming!
New Quay, Wales is truly breathtaking
One thing that will always fascinate me about New Quay is the incredible privilege of seeing dolphins swimming, playing, and living freely in their natural habitat — sometimes even visible straight from the harbour.
Yes, really. No binoculars. No long hikes. No elaborate planning. Just standing by the harbour wall in New Quay, scanning the water, and suddenly spotting that unmistakable dorsal fin gliding through the sea.
It’s the kind of moment that makes you pause mid-conversation. The kind that reminds you how special this stretch of coastline truly is.
A Rare and Beautiful Sight
There really aren’t many places in the UK where you can witness wild dolphins this close to shore. New Quay sits on the edge of Cardigan Bay, home to one of the largest resident populations of bottlenose dolphins in Britain.
Seeing them in the wild — not in an enclosure, not in captivity, but completely free — is something that never loses its magic. Sometimes they’re travelling in small groups. Sometimes they’re feeding. And if you’re especially lucky, you might catch them leaping clear of the water, twisting mid-air before disappearing beneath the waves again.
It feels intimate. Raw. Unfiltered.
Taking It One Step Further: Out on the Water
Of course, spotting dolphins from the harbour is unforgettable. But heading out onto the water? That’s next level.
If you do choose to venture out, we genuinely can’t recommend Dolphin Spotting Boat Trips enough. Experiences like this speak for themselves — moments where time slows down, cameras are forgotten, and all that matters is what’s happening right in front of you.
There’s something incredibly humbling about being out at sea while dolphins swim alongside the boat. Watching them surface just metres away. Seeing calves stay close to their mothers. Hearing the quiet awe from everyone on board.
It’s not just a boat trip — it’s a memory you carry home with you.
Something Exciting Coming Soon…
We were also lucky enough to secure a discount with Dolphin Spotting Boat Trips — and we’ll be sharing more information on that very soon. If New Quay is on your list (and it absolutely should be), keep an eye out.
Capturing the Magic
A huge thank you for these absolutely stunning photos — they capture the magic of New Quay perfectly. The light on the water. The curve of the harbour. The fleeting silhouette of a dolphin breaking the surface.
Some places are beautiful.
Some places are memorable.
New Quay is both — especially when the dolphins decide to make an appearance. 🐬
